Back in 2011, when a dozen people gathered at my home in Durham at something I
dubbed “The Conclave,” all we knew was that there was a desperate need for
standards for social media measurement and that a bunch of different
organizations were trying to do something about it. Back then, we
made those first early Conclave members our Mavens because they made the trek to Durham and gave up so much of their precious
time to start the ball rolling.
Since then an amazing amount of work has been accomplished, and -- congrats! -- as of June 6th The Conclave has completed the draft standards for all six priority areas. (Read them at #SMMStandards and please comment!; comments are open until the end of July.)
Here at The Measurement Standard, we've never before repeated our monthly Measurement Maven award, but this time we really had no choice. This is a big deal. A really big deal.
The original small core group has blossomed into more than three dozen members, representing some of the largest companies, agencies, and associations on the planet. For 18 months they donated their expertise, their experiences, and most of all their time to debating, writing, and creating the standards.
The industries – PR, measurement, social media, and marketing – all owe these folks a large round of applause and a huge debt of gratitude for moving this effort forward. --Katie Delahaye Paine
