My friend Dana Marshall at the River just closed out her radio show with Warren Zevon's "Keep me in your heart for awhile," dedicated to our friend Crescentia and that opened the floodgates, literally and figuratively. It made me think of all the other great songs we know that are perfect for moments such as these. My friend Curt Besette does an amazing one on his "Live all your Dreams" CD called "They live in our hearts so they'll never die," that is sure to send me into sniffles no matter when I play it. It came out just after my father died and I'll forever think of that song and that moment whenever I think of my dad.
The there's the one that our friend DaleRobin sang for Crescentia last night: As she most aptly put it: This evening, Mom’s Home Cookin’ performed at York County Community College. As we often do, we ended our show with this song, and tonight I dedicated it to Crescentia.
Oft I sing for my friends
When death’s cold hand I see
When I reach my journey’s end
Who will sing for me
I wonder who
Will sing for me
When I come to cross the silent sea
Tell me who will sing for me
And when friends have gathered ‘round
And look down at me
Will they turn and walk away
Or will they sing one song for me
So I’ll sing until the end
And helpful try to be
Ever knowing there’ll be some
Who will sing one song for me
Dear Crescentia – I sang this one for you tonight, I will sing it for you still.
