Cherreka Montgomery is Director of the Evaluation and Measurement Unit of the Office of the Under Secretary for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs, Office of Policy, Planning, and Resources at the U.S. Department of State. We first encountered Cherreka when she spoke at this year’s IPR Measurement Summit in Portsmouth, NH. Her presentation outlined how the State Department established a comprehensive and consistent measurement program that ties all communications activities back to the over-arching goal of the Department: reduce anti-American sentiment abroad. It was a riveting presentation and I was instantly impressed with her grasp of research methodology.
She was even more impressive one-on-one over breakfast a few weeks later. She is one of those rare creatures who understands both numbers and communications and can take data and translate it into meaningful decisions and actions...
One of the most memorable comments she made was about why the Measurement Summit was so enjoyable: “It makes me realize that there are other people like me out there that both love metrics and understand communications.” Yes Cherreka, there are, but not nearly enough.
We are pleased to award Cherreka Montgomery our Measurement Maven of the Month Award. --KDP
