One of the big problems with social media is how to wrangle its complex and messy manifestations into something that looks and feels like orderly progress toward goals. Robin Hamman at Dachis Group has posted some interesting thoughts ("Curating, Not Moderating, the Flow of Content and Participation") on the topic:
User generated content is, for many... organisations, more of a problem than a solution. Vague calls to action lead to waves of irrelevant content... only for that content to, in most instances, be ignored.
