Well this morning the New York Times has an excellent piece concerning both baseball and statistics that, really, to fans of both fields, could hardly be more exciting: "A Journey to Baseball’s Alternate Universe." It describes a mathematical simulation of the entire history of baseball carried out to discover how likely Joe DiMaggio’s 56-game hitting streak really is. --Bill Paarlberg
