Maybe its the long cold winters, but people up here in the frozen North seem to "get" measurement much more than their southern counterparts. Yesterday morning I had a fabulous conversation with Marcel LeBrun of Radian 6 about measuring social media and not only does he totally get it, he's got a great system and a brilliant business model that I hope means that everyone will have access to some form of social media monitoring.
Then of course there was a day of MESH discussions following on yesterdays Third Tuesday in Toronto meeting which followed Joe Thornley's roundtable discussion of social media measurement standards , where we started to define engagement in a much more meaningful and quantifiable way.
Then last night, it was dinner with the Canadian ruler of the PR measurement universe (call him King or God, which ever you prefer) Andrew Laing of Cormex. Who else can weirdos like me talk to about the mechanics of writing research reports and measuring relationships over amazing food at Lee's.?Granted we don't see eye to eye exactly on social media, but I think I nudged him a bit further along the continuum.
It's been an amazing three days and proves once again that not only are Canadians wicked friendly, they're also, as we say in New England "wicked smaht".

And it was also wicked fun to hang out with you last week, at the roundtable, at Third Tuesday and at mesh. I really enjoyed your panel on measurement at the end of Thursday afternoon - smart, insightful, and genuinely interesting contributions. Thanks once again for coming up to see us all here in the not-so-frozen North.

Hi Katie - excellent post, and thank you for highlighting the Radian 6 product. I've had a demonstration, and used the product briefly and found it to be excellent. Its an inexpensive, and effective way to measure social media.

We welcome "wicked smaht" people up here any time. Hey, we lured Richard Florida to the "centre of the universe". Maybe you're next!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Great to listen and to talk to you.

Hi Katie,
It was great to chat with you and I enjoyed sharing the platform with you at Third Tuesday; it was a fun discussion.
We may have smart people here, but I guess Berlin, NH now has the new Wayne Gretzky of social media since Canada has branded you this yesterday. ;-)
