Can Turner and Inerference "bomb" get any worse?
The short answer is yes. I just watched the "press" conference with the two operatives that Interference hired to put the devices around Boston. They were there, they said, to talk about haircuts of the 60s -- and of course refused to discuss yesterday's debacle. While they can easily be dismissed as two hapless idiots that got caught up in all of this, the real villain in all of this is Interference that has yet to make any kind of public statement. I can just imagine the corp com folks at Turner that watched the press conference realizing that the behavior of these two clowns guaranteed that the crisis would dominate headlines for at least another couple of news cycles. What is just astounding is that Sam Ewen has a blog in which he was posting yesterday about stuff completely unrelated to the crisis. If Ewen or Interference had half a clue about social marketing, they'd at least use the blog to engage people, or explain the situation or do something to diffuse it. It is astounding to me that someone who professes to do guerrilla marketing in the 21st century is practicing PR the way it was done in the 19th.
