Who's the real winner or loser here? In the wake of the Aqua Teens brouhaha Boston and Turner broadcasting reached a settlement which will add $2 million to the cities coffers and Mayor Menino I'm sure is crying all the way to the bank. (I'm wondering if the other cities that didn't react are kicking themselves for missing this opportunity to solve their budget deficits) Aqua Teen's are now a household name and no doubt a lot of people will tune in AND go to the movie just to find out what the fuss was all about. Turner is $2 million poorer, which they'll no doubt make up in ticket sales and the damage to their reputation is neutralized by their largess. PR classes around the world have a great new case study to debate. In my mind, the only figure in this saga that may still have egg on its face is Interference, the marketing firm that cooked up the lame brained scheme in the first place. On the other hand if the Aqua Teen movie breaks box office records, their phones will probably be ringing off the hook.
